Symbolism
Chess Board
For my birthday one year I was given a book titled “Why you Lose at Chess”. I decided to open the book to discover the secret promised in the title only to be presented with examples of games played by people that I have never met. The only thing that this book seemed to accomplish was boring the life out of me! One day, I decided to cut a few of the little chessboard illustrations out and collage them into one of my paintings. I really liked the effect.
Full Moon
Impossible Eclipse
The impossible eclipse is symbolized by an depiction of the sun being consumed by a crescent moon. In this symbol, the sun represents aspects of our existence which can be defined as “illuminated” (logic, knowledge, science, language…) while the moon represents all that which is carnal (dreams, instinct, intuition…). The impossible eclipse defines the moment we forget everything we have been taught and remember that which we are.
